Our Visit to Rock ridge

Before visiting Rock ridge I thought it was going to be not to different than east Oakland but it was. Rock ridge was somewhat similar and somewhat different than Oakland but Rock ridge was more like hippier, there were not many diversity I mainly saw Asians and white people. Some similarities between Rock ridge and Oakland was that there was tagging on some walls, there was homeless people on the streets and there was a lot of traffic on streets some differences that I saw between Oakland and Rock ridge was that there were lots of boutiques, book stores, hair salons, and Farmers markets and the streets were clean and had benches on every sidewalk we walked through and people were nice and polite when we interviewed them.

My Life Living in Oakland

I was born and raised in Oakland, I like living in Oakland but sometimes I realize how scary it is to live here with all the violence and gangs, drugs and other things that happen around here. In Oakland you could live a go life with no problems, Oakland has nice neighborhoods and nice communities to live in. Something that I don’t like about Oakland is that most streets are full of trash around and people sometimes don’t seem to care about it. People may talk that Oakland is the worse city to live at because they hear in the news all the violence around and the killing but they don’t get well informed about Oakland. In my opinion Oakland is not that bad like the rumors outside say but I guess is up to the people to decide whether or not to like it. One thing that I like about the Oakland community is that it has different races, Latinos, Asian, African American and others.

Our Visit to China Town

My experience I china town as different that what I imagined, china town for me I thought there were only going to be Chinese people but I was wrong there were all kinds of people. When I first knew that we were going there I was like WHAT.... we are going to be strange everyone was going to be looking at us strange because we weren’t Chinese. Some differences that I saw between china town and Fruitvale was that there were a lot of people in the street walking and in Fruitvale there were people not as much. Something that surprised me about china town was that there were lots of restaurants and Chinese shops and many places to go around there. Some similarities I noticed from Chinatown and Fruitvale was that people make a lot of business around their stores.

Garbage in our community

Walking around the Fruitvale community we found a variety of trash in the community, there was all types of trash on the ground that should not be. In this community there is tagging everywhere. One interesting thing that we found in our community was a little girl about five years old plying in the playground of her school that had tagging on the walls around her. Even though her school has tagging in her school walls she was having fun in her playground not knowing why or what was on that wall.

Our visit to Fruitvale

Comparing my experience in Fruitvale and in Walnut Creek, it was totally different. I way that in walnut creek people were polite when it came to interviewing and that showed people actually cared about their community, here in Oakland the interviews were different because people were rude, embarrassed and probably scared when they saw the audio recorder. Some things that I learned from Fruitvale were that most people who walked by there are Latinos and most didn’t speak English and we had to interview them in Spanish. Another thing that I noticed in the Fruitvale community was that people was rude to us and didn’t even want to answer us some questions they would only walk away. Some positive things that I learned from Fruitvale were that people specially woman care more about the community and health around because they think of their children and family members. Some negative aspects I learned from Fruitvale were that people don’t do anything to change the community. Today in Fruitvale what I learned about health our topic was that people think differently about the community, some think is healthy and some think is not.
